I am back from my trip to the West Coast - I had the chance to catch up with a friend who's married to a woman from a very traditional Viet-Chinese family.
I asked about her family, and it transpires that out of 5 siblings, only she is married and the others (3 girls, 1 boy) seem destined to never marry - in fact, they have never dated! All are in their mid-late 30s. Anyway, her family reminded me of other families I know in which the kids (raised primarily in N. America) remain single.
I speculate that the single-ness results from a combination of strict parenting into the 20s (aka living at home into your 20s) and then a lack of opportunity eventually transforming into a lack of ability to mingle with the opposite sex/right sex and then tada - single-dom!
